During the semester, we had one guest presentations by students, (anti-bullying) and three extra credit opportunities ("Start Something that Matters," John Strelecky's presentation on Life Safari, and the Majors Fair).
In a blog of approximately 500 words, write a review of one of these events/ activities. Your audience is your classmates who may or may not have attended the same event. Your purpose is to explain the event/activity and to share why it was meaningful to you, why it was useful to you, how you will remember it or use the skills or information you gleaned from it. Your thesis is your own ...

Blog Four: Due no later than December 2nd
So, it’s either 2041 (thirty years from now) or 1981 (thirty years ago). You are a first year college student.
Describe with detail what you imagine your average school day would be like from the time you wake up to the time you go to sleep. What technology would you be using (or missing)? What kind of transportation and communication would be available? Fashion? Food? What would a classroom be like, and what would you be learning about? Go through your day step by step and make these considerations. If you go to the past, remember to research the details to avoid anachronisms!
This is your final blog of the semester (Blog Five will be optional and for extra credit), so let your imagination run wild and have some fun with the concept and the language. Remember, you only have to write on one day in one year … future or past?

Blog Three: Due by Tuesday, November 1st
As we've discussed, you will perform a lot of primary and secondary research while you're at university, and the early you start, the better your skills will be. To this end, the Library provides many different approaches to helping you. Having done the pre-test, post-test, and the four modules of the Skunk Ape Tutorial, consider the following questions.
Now, post-tutorial, you have a two part blog:
1) Write a few paragraphs summarizing and reflecting on the value of this tutorial. Some points to consider:
Which skills might you use? How much of this did you already know? What else do you feel you need to know about performing basic research?
2) List three things in the blog you did NOT know when you started the tutorial. Then list three things you already knew.
NB: If you need to refer back to the tutorial, you will find it here:

Fall Blog #2: Due: Tuesday, October 4th
Due: Tuesday, October 4th
In his book, Life Safari, author John Strelecky talks about having a "Big Five For Life" - the kind of goals that propel us to our own definition of success. What are your “Big Five for Life?” What are the five things you want to see, experience, or accomplish before you die? Would you then consider your life a success? Do you see your “Big Five for Life” changing as time goes on? What factors might cause you to re-evaluate your “Big Five for Life”?

Fall Blog #1: Due Tuesday, August 30th
Please refer to Chapter One of your Essentials of Argument textbook; it contains the assertion that, "Argument is everywhere." On pages 21-22, activity Two asks you to test this idea. Instead of presenting these in class, I'd like you to convert the exercise to a blog. Ideally, you will be able to link or upload your chosen example of argument to your blog. If it's not a media file, you can always TAKE a photo and upload it! Have fun with this, respond kindly to each others' posts, and email me with any questions you have. Don't forget Part b (evaluating whether the argument is ethical or not).
My image is below. I consider this an argument to update the so-called Cinderella Complex. The image reminds me that many young women are secretly dreaming for a Prince to come rescue them from a life of drudgery and provide them with a life of luxury. This image of a glass slipper (with fashionably high heels) reinforces the notion that women are fragile, need protection, and can be overly concerned with fashion/appearance. While this image does not visibly come from an advertisement, I imagine it as an ad for an expensive spa or boutique.
It just occurred to me that this image resonates for me because since my knee surgery, I walk with fragility as if in glass shoes (and I'll probably never wear heels again). I want my New York stride back. This image mocks me. It's only unethical in my own mind.
